When in Rome … Part One
You know the saying: When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
Does this mean speak Italian?
So what about America? Why is it okay for me to travel to Europe and not be expected to know a lick of French, German, Italian or Spanish, but Mexicans come here and are ridiculed for not knowing English right off the bat?
This is why I love our church. We’re in the middle of the country, but we have a large population of Mexicans, Latinos, whatever. Our priest is learning Spanish and we have a special Spanish Mass on Sundays. My son’s religion class has a breakout group for the parents of the Spanish-speaking kids.
I love that our church is accommodating people who don’t have the luxury of languishing in English as a Second Language classes.
